Colonel Peter Brown

    Professional Background:

    Colonel Peter Brown is a Royal Australian Corps of Signals officer with 25 years’ experience as an engineering officer specialising in communications, electronic warfare, and cyber operations. He is currently posted to Army Headquarters as a Director in the Adjutant General - Army Branch. Previously he was the Director Cyber Effects at Headquarters Joint Operations Command, where he was responsible for establishing an emerging cyber and electromagnetic spectrum effects capability, shaping supporting policy and procedures, and leading multidisciplinary teams that work alongside partner Defence and government agencies. Peter’s career spans several of Defence’s most technically demanding capability portfolios. He has served as Deputy Director of the Special Operations Modernisation Program, Deputy Director of C4ISR design within Vice Chief of Defence Force’s Force Integration Division, and Director of the Defence Cryptographic Controlling Authority, leading Defence’s communications security policy and operations. Earlier appointments included the Joint Counter Improvised Threat Taskforce, Future Land Warfare Branch, and command of 72 Electronic Warfare Squadron, alongside operational deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, and the Middle East in electronic warfare and counter-IED roles. Involvement with the Organization: Peter’s association with the AOC dates back over a decade, having completed AOC electronic warfare training in 2011 and 2012 earlier in his career. Awards, Recognitions, or Significant Accomplishments / Education: He holds a Master’s degree in Strategy and Security from the University of New South Wales, a Master of Information Technology from the University of Southern Queensland, and is currently completing a Master of Engineering Practice, also at USQ. He is a graduate of the Goh Keng Swee Command and Staff College in Singapore, holds a Graduate Diploma in Organisational Leadership, and has completed postgraduate studies in systems project management and electronic warfare. Peter is a Fellow of Engineers Australia (Chartered Engineer, Engineering Executive, National Engineering Register), and a Certified Ethical Hacker with EC-Council.

    Lauren Hassall

    Professional Background:

    Lauren Hassall is an experienced systems engineer specialising in space technologies, electromagnetic spectrum capabilities (including cyber and signals intelligence), and leadership in Defence and National Security. Her professional strengths include program and project management, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and workforce leadership. Lauren currently oversees delivery for National Security sector within KPMG's Engineering and Asset Management team and serves as a Reservist Engineer with the Australian Defence Force. Involvement with the Organisation: Lauren has served as CEO of AOC Australia since September 2023. She leads the organisation’s mission to grow the workforce pipeline and skills across the Electronic Warfare (EW) and Information Warfare (IW) domains. Her work includes advocating for the sector, coordinating professional development programs, and progressing strategic initiatives such as the Spectrum Working Group. Notable Achievements / Industry Recognition: Lauren became a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) in 2023. That same year, she was named a finalist for “Engineer of the Year” at both the Space Awards and the Women in Defence Awards. She spoke as a panellist at the “Defending Australia” event at the Australian War Memorial and has maintained a strong presence in STEM and inclusion initiatives through her leadership roles on boards such as Robogals Global and YWCA Canberra. Awards, Recognitions, or Significant Accomplishments / Education: Lauren holds a Bachelor of Systems Engineering (Honours) and Bachelor of Science from ANU, and a Master of Space Engineering from UNSW. She is registered as a Chartered Engineer (CPEng), NER, APEC Engineer, and IntPE(Aus).

    Jeff Malone

    Professional Background:

    Mr Jeff Malone is a Senior Analyst in the Defence Science and Technology Group of the Australian Department of Defence. In his current role he is a science program manager supporting the delivery of the Defence Innovation, Science, and Technology Strategy. For the last decade he has held a persistent secondary duty as the Theatre Information Warfare (IW) Evaluator in Headquarters Joint Operations Command J8 Branch. He previously served in the Australian Army as an Australian Intelligence Corps officer. In a previous Australian Public Service role he served as the Director of Intelligence of the Office of Transport Security (prior to its incorporation into the Department of Home Affairs). He was also a part time Senior Lecturer in the School of Systems and Computing, UNSW Canberra for over a decade. Involvement with the Organisation: Jeff is currently the Secretary of the Australian Chapter of the Association of Old Crows (AOC) and previously served as its President. He directed the Chapter’s major conferences in 2016, 2018, and 2021, which included classified program elements. He has also presented at AOC conferences internationally in Europe, the US, Asia and Africa. Notable Achievements / Industry Recognition: Jeff was the lead Australian author of an IW textbook used at the U.S. Joint Forces Staff College and has published extensively on IW and related matters. He has taught Masters-level units on IW, EW, and reliability engineering, and is a persistent Visiting Lecturer on the UK's Joint Services Command and Staff College IW course. Awards, Recognitions, or Significant Accomplishments / Education: In 2003, Jeff was appointed Chief of Defence Force Fellow in recognition of his IW-related work during the 1999 Australian-led intervention in East Timor.

    Allan Dundas commenced his career with the Royal Australian Air Force in 1990 at the age of 17 and now has over 35 years of experience in national defence, having served in uniform, civilian and industry roles. Allan is the founder (in 2012), Chair and Chief Executive Officer of DEWC Services Pty Ltd, a rapidly growing Australian defence EW, Intelligence, Cyber and AI capability company based in South Australia with over 100 staff. He is an accomplished company director, business leader, engineer and proud Australian Defence Force (ADF) Veteran. Involvement with the Organisation: Allan has been a member of the AOC for over 20 years and has served as a Director on the Board of the AOC Australian Chapter since 2005. Notable Achievements/Industry Recognition: Allan was a finalist in the 2024 Prime Minister's National Veteran Employment Awards in the Veteran Entrepreneur of the Year category. Under Allan's leadership, DEWC has twice been awarded as the Consultancy of the Year at the Australian Defence Industry Awards in 2019 and 2023. DEWC was the 2022 and 2024 State winner of the Defence Reserves and Employer Support Awards for the medium prviate category. DEWC was the State winner of the 2023 and 2024 Australian Achiever awards for excellence in customer service.     Peter Jenkins OAM

    Professional Background:

    Peter first started at Garden Island Dockyard in 1978 as a Trainee Technical Officer in the Radar and Countermeasures Workshop. In 1989, he founded Jenkins Engineering Defence Systems (JEDS), which specialise in providing electronic warfare, radar, and communications support—primarily to the RAN. Involvement with the Organization: He joined the Kangaroo Chapter over 40 years ago, which then became the Australian Chapter of the AOC. Notable Achievements / Industry Recognition: In 2019, Peter was awarded the McNeil Prize by the Australian Naval Institute, which recognises an individual from Australian industry who has made an outstanding contribution to the capabilities of the Royal Australian Navy. In 2023, he was honoured with the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to electrical engineering. Awards, Recognitions, or Significant Accomplishments / Education: Peter is a member of the IEEE and the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society, a founding member of the Australian Industry & Defence Network, a member of the Antenna Measurement Society, and an Honorary Life Member of the Professional Radio and Electronics Institute of Australia.

    Jason Perkins

    Position & Company: Lieutenant Colonel – Australian Regular Army

    Professional Background:

    LTCOL Jason Perkins join the Army in 1996 and has served most of his career within the Royal Australian Signals Corps following his graduation from the Royal Military College. He is a Land Electromagnetic Warfare specialist, deploying multiple times in Electromagnetic Warfare and Signals Intelligence related roles. Career highlights include working at the Joint Counter Improvised Threat Task Force, Headquarters 6 Brigade and as the head of Headquarters Joint Operations Command Joint EMS Operations Cell. He is currently serving within the Defence Digital Group as a Deputy Project Director. Involvement with AOC ANZ: Jason has only recently joined the board of AOC ANZ and while he has only become a member in recent years he has been a strong contributor to AOC events both within Australia and overseas. Notable Achievements / Industry Recognition: Jason led the redesign of the ADF’s Joint EMS Operations planners course and has been a key contributor to ADF EMS doctrine publications.
